In search of some Vitamin D

Yesterday I had a meeting at work at 7:00 am.  This let out into my normal work day, which happens to be an office with no windows.  It is a space that I have created that is very calming, after all I am a counselor and my job is to help people find peace in their lives.  My office is full of plants, a fountain, subdued lighting, sand trays, a zen garden, and many many different sensory toys designed to help calm a person.  Some days it is hard to stay awake it is so serene.  However, back to the no windows thing.  So, I spent my day in my serene yet sun-less office and went to the gym abnormally late.  As I left the gym later than normal (it was after 5:00) and it was already starting to get dark.  So I headed home - and by the time I left my house again to go eat dinner, it was pitch black.  Well, I have nearly spent an entire day without sunlight.  With the exception of the 3 minute drive to the gym.  This must be what it feels like to live in Alaska.  I can’t say I’m a fan.  I feel like I’m really feeling the effects of the lack of sun.  It really does brighten your mood to soak in some rays.  Even if it’s just a few minutes and frankly even if it’s just staring out a window.  Perhaps I need to find a way to go south for a few days over winter break, we shall see.  This weekend I’m going with a bunch of girlfriends to another friends’ cabin, and I know we’ll be spending a lot of time outside around a fire (during the day too, not just at night) - so hopefully that will help.  It’s supposed to be beautiful - sunny and in the 60’s with a perfect fall chill.

Have fun tonight! I was with Allison last night at Lurch’s. Good times! My suggestion for the lack of Vitamin D is the tanning bed. I am seriously thinking about going myself. I leave my house in the dark and get home in the dark. Tanning always makes me feel so much better. =)

  2. I understand the windowless room delima. I went from a classroom with a beautiful view to a windowless gym. I try to get the kids out as much as possible (more for myself than them, some days), but the weather won’t hold out much longer. Monday was so beautiful that we went out and played kickball, even though the heavy dew had them slipping and sliding all over. Hee hee, that was fun. It’s all about the vitamin D, man! Who does that sound like? :o)

    Hi Emily,

so your a counselor how cool. I always got the impression you were a teacher from your blogs but now I’m thinking you might be a school counselor. How cool! I take vitamin d tablets in the fall/winter. 1000 mg a day :)
