Today was a good day. We had a relatively easy day at work, followed by a baby shower for a co-worker after work, followed by me finding an apartment that is affordable that I think I can actually stomach living in. So that’s a relief. I thought I would sort of celebrate by giving myself a relaxing night on the computer. After all, my to-do list today is filled with enjoyable activities that all require being on the computer, like looking for plane tickets and searching for the new SNL my coworker has been telling me about since Mothers’ Day. So I ate dinner and decided it was time to relax in front of my new laptop that my gracious mother has allowed me to borrow. The next hour and a half went something like this:
- got new computer started
- can’t get online
- check connection
- close 16,000 popups that are trying to get me to choose between broadband and dial-up
- decide maybe i should restart the modem
- still with no luck, decide I should restart the computer
- Having internet at the speed of dial-up (puke), and getting extremly frustrated, I plug my tiny 6-inch asus back in
- get online, at lightnening speed, only to discover the volume isn’t working to watch the SNL skit
- switch back to new computer to really test the limits of my patience
- Repeat above steps at least 4 times, until patience is worn thin
- Be forced to listen to obnoxiously loud neighbor who has 7, yes 7, kids
- Finally realize I am an idiot and the volume on the computer itself was turned down, rehook up tiny computer, and finally enjoy SNL skit
- (Remember, the above steps were repeated at least 4 times, give or take a few of the irritating details, consuming nearly 1 1/2 hours of my relaxing evening)
Ok, so once it was all said and done, the skit was totally worth it. If you’ve seen Justin Timberlake and Adam Sandburgs D*** in a box skit from Saturday Night L/ive, the sequel came out on Mother’s Day. It’s called Mother Lovers, and it is great, even if you practically have to throw 2 computers out a window to get to it.
