Steely Dan

Steely Dan Cincinnati 7/13/08

Kevin and I went to Cincinnati Sunday night to see Steely Dan. We arrived at the hotel around 4 - just enough time to go find somewhere to eat, relax for a bit, and be good and ready for our cab to pick us up without having to rush. We went looking for somewhere to eat, and came across a beautiful country road, and then stumbled across what appeared to be a diamond in the rough. Let me back up by saying that Kevin and I have the worst luck when we are randomly looking for something to eat. So we were more than a bit hesitant. We went to this restaurant, Knotty Pine on the Bayou….it was phenomenal. There were framed reviews from local magazines  - a good sign.  They also highly suggested you have a reservation. Well, we didn’t but we got lucky, likely due to it being Sunday. Kevin had frog legs which of course led to Kermit the Frog voices, “ah geesh, don’t eat my friends!” They were absolutely fabulous with a nice warm butter to dip them in. I had blackened grouper with rice and green beans. It was the best grouper I had ever had. It was mild and spicy and buttery and wonderful. (Have you noticed I really enjoy food?) The chef was from Louisiana which you could tell by the great taste of our meal.

So on to the concert. Something interesting to me was that we had 3 different groups of people approach us about our age and how could we possibly be fans or even know who Steely Dan was. I thought that was very interesting. Yes, Kevin and I do look young, but enough already! We definitely were out of our element as far as the crowd was concerned, we even saw a few walkers and wheelchairs, but the show was phenomenal. We really had a great time….my personal fave was “Hey Nineteen” and I think Kev’s was “Asia.” It was a really great show and we definitely felt it was worth the trip to Cincinnati. Way to go Steely Dan…maybe you can make the trip to Indy next time!

I can’t believe Kevin ate FROG LEGS!!! We can’t normally get him to eat anything besides pizza and spaghetti! And I’m surprised he eats those because they’re “wet!”
