Today, in between running errands (like returning a movie that I had for 1 1/2 weeks - thanks Blockbuster for that new no late fees policy), I stopped by the Old National Bank in Fishers. They were having a “Going green in Fishers” thing, and the sign said learn how to go green and get free stuff. Well I’m a sucker for free stuff and although I’m far from “green” I have been attempting to be more conscious about recycling and using reusable grocery bags. So I thought I could pick up a few tips and get some free stuff too. A win - win right?
I got to the bank 5 minutes into the start and realized that most of the organizations who were having tables there hadn’t even arrived yet. Not wanting to have to make a second trip there, I got some information as well as the free stuff the “hostess” handed me and went on my way.
As I left I looked in my hands. I had a large plastic sack with an energy friendly light bulb, a reusable grocery bag, and a nearly 2 -inch thick pile of pamphlets and brochures. Does anyone else see the irony in this? So I did what any semi-enviornmental person would do. I picked through the brochures - I found one great one with environment tips and kept it - the rest were about the stupid bank and I threw those quickly into my recycling bin.
Although I haven’t thoroughly read through the pamphlet, I did get a glimpse of something interesting - it takes less water to run the dishwasher than to wash dishes by hand. (Only if the dishwasher is full) This comes as welcome news. And ironically my sister sent me a video link today of the horrors of plastic grocery bags. And although I did already use them, it was a good reminder to keep them in the front seat of the car rather than the trunk - where they sometimes get forgotten. If you don’t use them yet…this is a very cheap and easy way to feel good about doing something for the environment. See, we can all make a difference in our own tiny way.

That’s a good idea about keeping them in the front seat. I’m ALWAYS forgetting my recyclable bags. Also, I only have three (it’s amazing how many groceries fit in three of those bags) so I bring them in with the groceries then forget to take them back to my car. Guess I should buy more so I have backup. Duh! Plus there are some really cute ones now - I can justify buying them if it helps the environment right?
Also, another note, when I first bought mine at Wal-mart, instead of putting groceries in them, the clerk put them inside one of their plastic bags. Ha ha!
Sorry about the longest comment ever.

Thanks Mom! I’m good about taking them in for the weekly groceries…but can’t seem to remember when I just run in for a few things and end up kicking myself. Glad you like the blogs! Sara’s next!
